Learning Methods

Blended Learning Mode

  • Blended or hybrid learning refers to the combination of different learning environments: it mixes traditional face-to-face classroom methods with computer-mediated and self-managed activities.
  • This strategy creates a more integrated approach for both learners and teachers. Through the blended approach, technology plays a more important role than in traditional learning. Activities that otherwise would have taken place during classroom time can be moved online, thus optimizing the number of face-to-face meetings.

Based on OUM’s blended learning pedagogy, the textbook (print module) serves as the core learning material which drives all other learning activities. The textbook contains the necessary content, activities and exercises written by experienced academics. Students receive soft copies (digital versions) of all textbooks for each subject.

OUM’s Virtual Learing Environment system is called myVLE. It is primarily a platform for virtual interactions. MyVLE is an e-learning platform which supports and enhances the teaching and learning process. Students can access uploaded learning resources and activities, interact with each other and the facilitator.

OUM has an excellent digital library. The Tan Sri Dr Abdullah Sanusi (TSDAS) Digital Library has more than 23,000 titles of books in the main campus and learning centers nationwide. As for its digital collection, the online databases consist of electronic books (e-books) and  electronic journals (e-journals). E-books enable learners to read and make notes and annotations online while e-journals can be used to search for articles from scholarly journals worldwide. To date, the digital library has access to more than 53,000 titles of e-books and 22,000 titles of e-journals.
